At that point in time I was not sure about the best way to deal with the referendum. I wrote: ” Moeten we nu gaan stemmen met zijn allen? Het ontbreken van de Paarse optie is voldoende reden het referendum te boycotten, maar er dreigt wel een Oekraïne dilemma.” Later I decided it is better to vote (for blue) and that is why we send around the email.
In addition I said: “Het is misschien beter om alleen te gaan stemmen als men zich echt verdiept heeft in de het reilen en zeilen van de universiteit. Het is ook onderdeel van een kritische academische houding om alleen goed geïnformeerde beslissingen te nemen.” This might be an old argument against democracy, it does not make it invalid. Firstly, the university is no democracy (but the Netherlands is), and secondly, all our students and staff could easily invest time to learn about the organization of the university, the DD report etc. That they are not interested, do not come to any meetings etc., is one good reason to doubt the Green option.
