As part of the ongoing discussion on how to rebuild the contemporary university Rethink UvA is organizing an alternative opening of the academic year, called ReOpening, on 2 september from 14h-16h. The event takes place in – where else could it be? – the Maagdenhuis.
We are proud to announce that as part of this alternative opening Stefan Collini, Professor of English Literature and Intellectual History at the University of Cambridge, and author of “What Are Universities For?” (2012), will be giving a lecture on ‘Universities and “accountability”‘. We will also be looking back on the last year, and looking forward what this academic year might have in store for us.

The programme is as follows:
14-14.10: Welcome to ReOpening
14.10-15.30: Collini lecture “Universities and ‘accountability'” + Q&A
15.30-15.40: What to expect in the year ahead?
15.40-15.50: National ReThink Manifesto.
15.50-16: ReThink as an organisation.

Afterwards drinks in café Schuim, opposite the Bungehuis, for those that want to continue the conversation.
