ReThink UvA expresses its solidarity with the members of De Nieuwe Universiteit who have been held by the police since Saturday 12 April, and who were moved today (14 April) to immigration detention. We condemn the police for the unnecessary arrest of peaceful demonstrators, and the CvB for initiating the unnecessary eviction that led to the arrests. We also express our consternation at the indifference expressed by the CvB towards its own students in their letter on Saturday’s events. These students are guilty of no criminal acts, and are being held in detention and intimidated  for refusing to reveal their identity (as activists frequently and lawfully do). They have made great personal sacrifices for no other reason than their commitment to improving our university, and do not deserve to be treated like criminals. We therefore call on the entire academic community to do the utmost to support its arrested members at this difficult time.
